Guidelines for Position Paper Position papers are usually one to one-and-a-half pages in length. Your position paper should include a concise introduction followed by a comprehensive breakdown of your country's position on the issue before the committee. A good position paper will not only provide facts but also make proposals for resolutions. Here enclosed is a Sample Position Paper: Heading : (at the top left-hand side of the position paper) Please addressed the following information in the listed sequence: Delegates, School, Country, Committee and Topic. Delegates: Lucy, Lily School: Xi’an International Studies University Country: The Republic of India Committee: General Assembly Second Committee Topic: Promoting Low-carbon Economic Growth in the Developing World Introductory remarks : upon the given topic sphere of each committee, you should briefing the status quo of the problems and the main concerns of the international community. The universal threat resulted from global climate change, especially from heavy greenhouse gas emission has greatly aroused the attention of international community. Therefore promoting low-carbon economy runs into the common interest of mankind and is a matter of urgency, particularly in the developing world. Past international actions: this part includes Conventions and resolutions that your country has signed or ratified, UN actions that your country supported or opposed; the treaties and accords of specific organizations and commissions, etc. Indian policymakers are reacting to these threats by launching policies in accord with low-carbon economy, especially when they serve the country’s development agenda. India ratified the Kyoto Protocol in 2002, and is also a member of the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development
