Error and mistake An error has direct relation with the language competence. Errors do not result from carelessness nor hesitation, but lack of knowledge in the target language. Language errors cannot be self-corrected no matter how much attention is given. How to deal with spoken errors Correct errors in accuracy-based activities Be more tolerant to the errors in fluency-based activities How to deal with students’ spoken errors / mistakes made in fluency-based activity? It is best not to interrupt students during fluency work unless communication breaks down. For students’ trivial mistakes, it is sometimes wise to let the mistake pass.
