Unit 8 Is there a post office near here? Section A 1a-2c Teaching aims: 1. Master the key words and sentences. 2. Learn how to ask for and give directions on the street. Language points 1. Sentences: Is there a post office near here? Yes , there is. Where is it? It’s on Bridge street. 2. Key words: post, office, post office, police, police station, hotel, restaurant, bank, hospital, street, pay, pay phone, near, next to, in front of, between……and, behind, across from. Difficulties: Learn how to ask for and give directions on the street. Teaching steps: Step I. Warm up 1.Warm greetings to the students 2.Revision Teacher shows the words cards and asks the students to read and translate. Step II. Presentation 1. Lead-in Teacher shows a picture of the new words and ask the students to read together ,then match the meaning one by one. 2. Teach the new sentence by showing places around our hometown. Use some pictures to present the new words: post, office, post office, police, police station, hotel, restaurant, bank, hospital, street, pay, pay phone, near. For example: Look, what’s this? Then show and write the sentence on the blackboardIs there a post office near here? Meanwhile, ask the students to answer according fact. S:Yes, there is. Then ask the students to read this sentence together. Then show other placesof our hometown and ask students to answer. In this period, the teacher leads the students to ask the plural form of the sentence. 3. Teach Activity 1a. Ask students to look at the pictures carefully, match the words with the places in the picture. When the students finish, the teacher asks some students to say their answers, then check the answers. 4. Teach Activity 1b. Teacher points the picture and asks: Is there a hospital near here? What other places are there? Let’s listen and circle the places you hear in 1a. First, play the recorder, ask the students to circle the places you hear in 1a. Then check the answers. 5.Listen to 1b again T: Now let’s listen
