PREFACE
ON DEVELOPMENT OF NEW MODEL
In the year of 1996 when Previous model had been placed on the market. In the year of 2004 when New model has
been placed on the market. In this period of time, the market conditions were largely changed. In the year of 1996,
which had retained to the trace of the glory in the bubble economy, and in the year of 2004, which has been gradually
looking up, from lasting deflation.
In this period of time, for only excavators in 2 to 6 tons class mini-shovel, the sales all over the world were about
45,000 units, showing the stable conditions. But in Japan, the economic condition was largely changed. Granted that
the sales of Mini-shovel all over the world was in the stable conditions, Japanese market was struck by the change
of market structure such as the sales in the year of 2002, when compared with those in the year of 1996, was re-
duced to half, however, the sales in international market doubled.
On the other hand, KOBELCO was also under the economic conditions where has been struck by the wave of
change such as the corporation with CNH in the year of 2002, and supply of base machines to the distribution brands
like FK, CASE and so on.
In view of the present situation, the New model has been developed with the following concepts after reviewing again
the first concept to the roles for excavators which has been introduced at the beginning, taking the points to be im-
proved which could not be achieved with Previous model, and the information obtained by the hearings performed
during service man training curriculum conducted at various districts after Previous model had been placed on the
market, and then after arguing about the points at issue which were actually desired by users and obtained at local
site and which were acquired from those
