They act as a parent, as a teacher or even as a friend to many learners. Thus, they need to be sensitive and responsive to the needs of their students not only in academic aspect, but also in personal, social and emotional fields. In other words, they are supposed to know what their students want. First of all, students need to be respected. Respect them as a group and as individuals. It develops their self-respect and it makes them more receptive to learning when students feel that they are valued and respected. The number one sign of disrespect is bringing a person down. Though many educators camouflage( 掩饰 ) encouragement by undervaluing students, bear in mind that not all students have the ability to withstand insults or negative comments. In addition, though students like to hear praises from their teachers, yet giving only praises for a job well done may not be enough because students need constructive feedback for further improvement of their performances. Recognizing their strong points and helping them overcome their weak points are important. Don’t criticize because it will just increase students ’ defensiveness.
