Warm up stubborn troublesome unbearable What words can we use to describe Helen’s behavior? Reading strategy: prediction Before reading, look at the title, pictures. Read the first two or three lines of the text. Try to guess what the text is going to be about. Prediction a. Look at the title---- b. look at the pictures c. Read the first couple of lines: Helen Keller was a very special girl who needed a superb teacher. By the time she was seven years old, she still couldn’t speak, read or write. Helen Keller Prediction ? How she learned words ? Her college education ? Her family background ? Her teacher ? Her achievements What is the text going to tell us? Ex. The desire to express myself grew. The few signs I used were not enough to make myself understood and this made me feel angry. I felt as if something was holding me, and I tried very hard to free myself. I often felt very tired and broke down in tears. I wanted to communicate with others so much that I found it unbearable.
