Old Name: mitchell_bankboston41999, New Name: 35 The purpose of this presentation is to summarize KPMG’s understanding regarding the development of a IT architecture and by proposing a realistic framework to pursue a joint effort towards its implementation. With a changing business environment, BankBoston’s challenge is to profitably capitalize on its strengths to increase market share and increase focus on its target markets. At the same time BankBoston needs to minimize technical and project risks, and manage or reduce costs. In this context, IT can be either an impediment or the ultimate weapon in facilitating this transition—with architecture being the unifying agent promoting structural integrity, rapid time to market and strategic alignment between business and IT. An IT architecture provides a framework and governance process to guide BankBoston’s future technology investments and creates a theoretical IT horizon (“end-state”) which is beyond current best practices for the industry. At its core, defining a viable IT architecture consists of envisioning a constantly evolving end-state while introducing change in step-like, actionable increments, based upon leveraging a proven methodology and approach such as KPMG’s Enterprise Technology Architecture (ETA). Our approach will position BankBoston for its future technological state, add flexibility and move BankBoston away from a fixed IT cost structure. This will be done by employing leading edge technologies such as web-enabled architectures, data marts and warehouses, message brokers and high transaction throughput systems. These technologies will enable BankBoston to respond to cost, efficiency and reliability pressures as well as migrate from a legacy environment. Through a series of case studies which depict best practices within global organizations we will present why we believe KPMG is uniquely positioned to support BankBoston in this effort.
