一、选题的背景和意义
ChinaisacountrywiththelargestpopulationstudyingEnglishasaforeignlanguage,
andtherearemanyachievementsinEnglishteachingandlearning.Inthelasttwodecades,
withtheintroductionof computertechnologyintoeducation,CALL hasbecomemoreand
morepopularinEnglishteachingofmiddleschoolinChina.TheworkpresentedinthispaperfocusontheproblemswhichexistinCALLthroughthequestionnaire.BasedontheteachingprinciplesandmissionsofCALL,itaimstopromotetheeffectiveuseofmultimediaintheapplicationofEnglishteaching.
Simplystated,ComputerAssistedLanguageLearning(CALL)canbedefinedas“the
searchforandstudyofapplicationsofthecomputerinlanguageteachingandlearning
”from
aresearcher
perspective’
(Levy,1997).Actually,Americaistheearliestcountrywhich
studieshowtousethecomputertechnologyintoeducation.In1981,IBMPCcameoutwhich
contributedto
theusageofCAI.Thenin
1991,peopleinMassachusettsInstitute
of
TechnologyexploitedAthena(anindependentpackagewhichisusedtodealwithdata),and
thisopenedaneweraofCAI.Later,CALLcametotheschoolin1980(Xu,2010).
Huang(2001)listedmostoftheimportantdatesofCALLinChinafrom1984tolate
1990s,including
thebirthofCALLNET,
someimportantsymposiums,
conferences,
activities,etc.anditspotential.SinceTimJohnsofBirminghamUniversity
conducteda
CALLworkshopinChinaintheyear1984,CALLhasbeendiscussedforover20yearsand
exploredindifferentfieldsinappliedlinguistics.Attheearlystage,literaturecoversavariety
oftranslationsorquotationsfromoverseaacademicpublications;from1994to2004,CALL
seemstobegrowingupveryrapidlyandmanyscholarshavepioneeredindifferentfields
suchastheapplicationofcomputerinlistening,speaking,reading,writing,distancelearning,
machinetranslation,
corpuslinguistics,languagetestingandsoon
(Li,2004);
